Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party in power, has expressed dissatisfaction that most of the accomplishments of the party go mostly unreported.
On August 16, 2022, he gave a speech at the party’s National Secretariat in front of the APC Professional Forum’s leadership, which was led by the former governor of Bauchi, Malam Isa Yuguda.
“We have the unfortunate situation where the efforts of this government are not reaching the grassroots in terms of good publicity of what this government is doing,” he said. All of the talkative individuals only have negative things to say about this regime.
“We are aware that the opposition is frequently viewed as the underdog and that this causes people to sympathize with them. I disagree with this. Go over and offer your sympathy, but be honest with them. Don’t hang a dog for having a poor reputation. This is what is happening to us.
“All the excellent things that have transpired in this government have not received the kind of prominence it deserves,” Adamu continued in his lament. During the 16 years while the PDP was in power, several important programs were not carried out.
“We are doing it, but the government gets no credit for it. We only receive criticism. The electorates will recognize the change if we engage in positive reporting of what is occurring. They are going to learn the truth.
The party’s head urged party professionals to step up and make sure the party is given its proper standing.
“We must band together to defend what is right and to defend what is wrong, so that the public can distinguish between the two.
“No government in the world is chosen merely to act inertly or to look terrible. Nobody goes there with the intention of doing nothing or making a negative name for themselves. Everyone who comes here has positive intentions for the nation or the welfare of the people who elected them.
“Unfortunately, one negative aspect of the opposition’s propaganda that is coming up day after day is starting to replace the reality. I recognize that both as a nation and as a government, we need to improve how we handle the media.
Yuguda argued for the inclusion of more experts in politics, pointing out that their exclusion would result in motion without movement.
He claimed that all the nation needs is proper governance and that if professionals are excluded, the country will continue to deteriorate.
