After declining to go to a gig she had been scheduled for, Makhadzi and her record label, Open Mic, have been ordered to pay R159 000.

Open Mic was paid R70,000 for hiring the musician in December 2021, but they were unsatisfied, so they became embroiled in a legal dispute.

On behalf of Paledi Events Management, Mxolisi Kabinde of Kabinde Attorneys Inc. served the label in May with a demand for compensation for Makhadzi’s absence from the all-white-theme party held in December at Malapile Park in Rathoke.

The letter states that by failing to have the musician scheduled by our client show up and perform at the event, “you broke the terms of the agreement between you and our client.”

“At this time, we have been given the go-ahead to seek payment of the amount of R158 750 within 14 days of receiving this letter. Without giving you additional notice, we will file a lawsuit to recover the sum required by our client if you refuse to comply with our demand.

Regarding the letter, Makhadzi and the label are still mum.
